Recently there was a series of graphic novels that totally emphasised the graphic part of that term entitled Crossed, Vol 1 It was originally conceived and written by Garth Ennis and drawn by Jacen Borrows In it, an infection did the rounds turning people into maniacs who killed and slaughtered indiscriminately, and who even seemed to enjoy being tortured, mutilated and killed themselves The infected all had a wound which opened on their faces in the shape of a cross running both ways over their [...]

Military horror at its finest Written by 3 juggernauts of the zombie apocalypse genre, The Retreat 1 focuses mainly on a group of 10th Mountain Division soldiers fighting their way across a ruined Boston The virus that causes the city to crumble turns its victims into laughing homicidal maniacs The effect of having a bloodthirsty enemy that laughs maniacally is just downright creepy, and the enemy can think and reason, making them doubly dangerous If you re a fan of any of these 3 guys, don t ev [...]

My original Pandemic audiobook review and many others can be found at Audiobook Reviewer. As soon as I heard about this audiobook, I literally stopped everything went to Audible and bought it I have listened to stories from all three authors, Craig DiLouie, Stephen Knight and Joe McKinney, before and knew that this was going to be good Then mix in one R C Bray to the mix and you would think you would have an audiobook powerhouse of a story.A pandemic virus has spread to the United States turning [...]

Just so you know, this is the type of book that I like to read zombies or zombie like creatures the military Be warned, the authors use plenty of terms in references to weapons and equipment, and rank These creatures are not zombies they do not die and then come back as zombies Once you are infected you become a crazed psycho who just wants to hurt kill everyone, to include your fellow psychos To me this makes the creatures even deadly They can drive, shoot, kill, and think Some sick puppies in [...]

A great book helped by the Bray Effect This book would have most likely gotten 5 stars without R.C Bray, but if I could give it , I would Bray is so incredibly talented it s crazy His narration of The Retreat Pandemic was just perfect The voices were perfect and the laughs were so good they gave me chills. The Retreat Pandemic was a book I read what felt too close to another Bio Thriller But, with most Post Apocalyptic books this takes place right after the pandemic starts There wasn t too much i [...]

Well worth the read Books with multiple authors usually are hit or miss in my experience A lot of skill and collaboration are required to blend two different writing styles into an enjoyable read, three is often a recipe for mediocrity Not in The Retreat I m not familiar with Knight and McKinney but DiLouie is always on my radar and here it s obvious the three writers work well together The tone and structure of the book is very smooth and easy to read. This book is short but solid The story will [...]

A good, easy read The chapters are short which, in my opinion, honestly works really well for this book My only issue is that if you don t have a lot of military knowledge, especially of the Army s slang, you can get a little lost Mind you, the authors do a good job at explaining slang and nothing is so heavily military that it gets to be overly much Every so often though, you might be left wondering what the word they used means exactly Does it take away from the story Not in the least My only [...]

As apocalyptic thrillers go, this one was pretty original Instead of the mindless undead that overwhelmingly forms the majority of this genre, this author created a disease that turns everyone into grinning sadomasochistic killers Sure, the end result is the same, but it does provide enough variation in the details to keep you entertained There is room for improvement, but it is a good enough job that I find myself wanting to read the next one to see where things go from here.

More of a 3.5 stars rating, I rounded down because I had to remember so many military abbreviations and termsThey were explained when they were first used, but after a certain amount, it s hard for a non military person to keep them all straight. The interactions with the crazies were intense and very well done. Each time a character went down to the horde it was tough to stomach.I could see myself reading part 2 when it comes out.

spoiler alert What is with post apocalyptic fiction writers wanting to kill off main characters Who am I, as the reader, supposed to root for and care about if the characters I think I m supposed to be attached to keep dying off I may read the next in the series if I dint have anything else in the where queue but probably won t go hunting it down.

This was a good read It s not the usual back from the dead and want to eat you zompoc story The military action was interesting while not getting bogged down in too many details that are sometimes hard for someone not very familiar with military jargon and practices to understand I am planning on reading the next book in the series.

I can only give this one star as it just wasn t my kind of book No reflection whatsoever on the writing it was just too military based and I just couldn t enjoy the laughing business I struggled through about a quarter of this before I gave in and admitted I was feeling it was time out of my life I would never get back.

For any fans of military procedures and armageddon.I ve liked everything I ve read by DiLouie One of his books, Tooth and Nail, nearly made me cry Rare for me to begin with, but even rarer still for a zombie novel. While not quite zombies, the Klowns of this book are certain fearful and fearless The survivors do their best under a really shitty reality.Good writing, good story.

An interesting start to what I m sure will be a good story. The trouble is it was sold as a book and it s far to short to stand alone.I enjoy books as a series but I expect at least 300 400 pages per book if not .Worth a read but not sure if I ll buy .
