A mysterious eccentric woman dies, and in her will requires a puzzle scavenger hunt to be solved before her money is inherited All the heirs a greedy nutjobs. The Puzzle Lady is charged with solving the puzzles, and solving a murder The puzzles were fun to solve. Not bad, even though the contrived romance was sappy.

I have read several books in this series, but this one seemed to be a cut above the rest I really liked the plot and the way it kept me turning pages to find out who the murderer was.

I liked Cora and Shelley but the the humor found in the erratic alcoholic behavior eluded me The plot was twisted and this book is best if you just read the last few chapters.

This is the 2nd book in the Puzzle Lady series Once again, I was happily engrossed much so that I rarely put this down.Wealthy widow Emma Hurley died with only her servants at her side, but after she passes away, her greedy heirs crawl out of the woodwork to stake a claim in Emma s fortune To their surprise, Emma was not content to leave behind a simple will Instead, her final testament includes a clever puzzle one to be given only to her living heirs. The first one to solve the puzzle will inher [...]

Hall tries for The Westing Game flavor, but the characters are still unpleasant verging on offensive, the ending is a cheat again, CHOOSE Either you try for realism or assume your readers are suspending disbelief If someone seems to have set up a will that requires people to compete and complete crossword puzzles, I have already suspended disbelief You do not need to change it up at the end so I ll believe it possible in the real world The regular drunkenness of the Puzzle Lady is hard to stomac [...]

This second Puzzle Lady book was a lot of fun The plot got very involved and there was really no way to figure out the murderer until the very end At least I didn t see any clues The Puzzle Lady is a real character She is a little over the top actually, but quite sharp when she s sober and a real hoot The other characters were somewhat one dimensional, meaning that they were of one type and were consistently of that type There s no real evolution so among the continuing ones. The actual crossword [...]

A rich old maid leaves her heirs a collection of cross word puzzles in a treasure race for their inheritance, and Cora must judge the results However, when the bodies start appearing, things turn deadly for everyone An inventive plot with great twists kept me racing through the pages, although I was very glad when Cora sobered up for the second half of the book.Read my full review at Carstairs Considers.

Another fun installment though I was somewhat irked that I went out of my way to read this in actual book form because the last one included a crossword puzzle that I was disappointed I couldn t try And then in this one, the crossword was actually part of the mystery and got solved as we went Oh well Back to Kindle for this series then Plot wise this was fun and light I m still enjoying these characters and the quirk of this cozy.

What a fun, complicated mystery that has a crossword puzzle and so much imbedded The Puzzle Lady, a constructor of crossword puzzles in a small Connecticut town has been tasked with refereeing a large scale four part crossword puzzle to determine who should inherit an old spinster s estate 15M There is lots of competition, lots of twists and turns Worth the read as a break from all the non fiction and Judaica I read.

I m not going to send out messages over YouTube encouraging people to find Mr Hall s series, but I am thrilled to have stumbled across it for myself The one who did it was not obvious, and the dialog and interaction among the characters was witty and fun to read This is a good rainy afternoon read for a mystery lover.

This is such an entertaining series especially for a crossword addict like me Integrated into the plot this time, contending heirs to a huge inheritance have to compete to solve a puzzle first , readers can work on the book s crossword to try to solve it themselves before the characters do Funny, exciting and unpredictable great qualities in a mystery series I m on to the next.

An excellent 2nd book I was captivated from the start I particularly enjoy working on the puzzles throughout the book I was especially bowled over when I discovered that the puzzle I had completed was the wrong puzzle as the last set of clues where forged and then it turns out the whole thing was a set up as the real clues where left around the house underneath doors and cabinets.
