A good cozy mystery with a delightfully wacky main character Cora is known as the puzzle lady who writes a syndicated crossword puzzle column But is she really who she says she is But her crazy brain seems to connect the clues to solve murder mysteries especially when they involve crossword puzzles.

This is the 3rd book in the Puzzle Lady Series I want to start by saying that I have read some of the reviews on this book and all I can say is that you have to like cozy mysteries to understand and enjoy most of them They are not written to be even faintly possible the characters are unbelievable as are most of the solutions and amateur sleuths I happen to love the cozy mystery, so I can look beyond the Oh my gosh, that could never happen aspect. In Bakerhaven, Connecticut, lives renowned local [...]

So I borrowed this one from my library I was browsing through their available ebooks and this one didn t have anything listed next to it as being from a series, so I picked it up I loathe getting in in the middle of a series Usually it doesn t matter, but still This time it did matter Usually in series, the author recaps a little of the main plotline quickly to anyone who s new and picking one up in the middle This author did not So, I ve no idea what a Puzzle Lady is and why the younger one isn [...]

This is the first novel I have read in this crossword puzzle series After reading the first chapter, I was not overly impressed but decided to trudge on a bit further The plot for the murders was good, I wasn t sure whodunit but then again, it s very rare that I do know who it is But I found a dislike for the main character, Cora The Puzzle Lady She s a grumpy old curmudgeon, but the snide sarcastic side of her is not endearing Things didn t progress well for me when I found a distaste for the C [...]

This time, the characters are sexist and often drunk than usual, there are jabs at those who politicize things and a definite conservative bias , and the first victim is reported as a regular victim of domestic abuse but the other characters dismiss this as part of the victim s relationship with her husband This is corrected at the end to the characters just having roaring fights, but that s not believeable at all given the previous text as well as being an offensive lesson see, some people ju [...]

While I enjoy Cora and Sherry and the rest of the Bakerhaven bunch, I didn t particularly enjoy this mystery It floundered partway through and Cora s trials with Harvey Beerbaum just seemed to be frustrating rather than adding to the conflict.I m also quite disappointed in how the mysteries were resolved in the end I don t really care if I can solve the mystery first, but this ended with quite a convoluted explanation that I had to read over a couple of times to really make sense of it maybe tha [...]

A cute cozy mystersy set in fictional Bakerhaven, CT On the weekend of a crossword puzzle tournament 3 dead bodies are found in this small town There s a two timing wife, her noisy neighbor, and then one of the celebrity tournament players Cora and her niece investigate the murders Typical amateur sleuth mystery story, but I found Cora a sassy, smoker drinker who fakes her title as the Puzzle Lady and really has no knowledge of crossword puzzles She can be a little annoying sometimes Near the en [...]

When Cora gets tricked into hosting a charity crossword puzzle competition, she worries her secret might come out However, she has other concerns when a body drops Another fun book, although the rushed ending wasn t as strong as it could have been.Read my full review at Carstairs Considers.

Funnier and quicker paced than the previous book I haven t read the first Hall has an odd habit of frequently referring to the characters by their full names, but it s a minor annoyance So far these books seem to be a step above the vast majority of hobby themed cozy mysteries that are flooding the shelves.

An enjoyable cozy mystery which successfully combines a number of winning elements face paced action, colorfully quirky characters lead by its anti Jessica Fletcher detective and an intriguing central mystery with satisfying results The writing grinds a little bit around the edges but the overall effect is successful.

The series continues, with crossword puzzles figuring large in the solution of murders A cute twist in this series scenario is that the Puzzle Lady who apparently writes a syndicated crossword column, is really the aunt of the true cruciverbalist who is avoiding her violent ex husband Very funny, with actual puzzles to solve along with the characters.
